Chehab Famıly

The Chehab famıly, whose lineage traces back to ancient Arabia, reigned over the verdant valleys of Wadi al-Taym since the 12th century before ascending to rule all of Mount Lebanon.

Their centuries of governance shaped the foundations of modern Lebanon and left an indelible mark on its historical identity.

Chehabs and the World
In Transıton

Following the dissolution of the Lebanese Emirate and the ensuing instability in Lebanon, the Chehab family adapted to a changing world where traditional aristocracy waned. As professionals, statesmen, and scholars, they played a significant role in the development of the Lebanese nation, contributing to the advancement of their communities across the transforming global landscape.

Chehab Chronicles emerges as a critical scholarly intervention, meticulously excavating historical landscape of the Chehab Family, and Lebanon, as well as the global and regional actors. â€‹ This archival project transcends mere documentation, offering a nuanced cartography of cultural memory through carefully translated sources. By bridging linguistic terrains—Translatıng sources on Lebanese history from French and Arabic into English—the database provides scholars a profound lens into the complex narratives of historical representation, revealing how power, memory, class and cultural identity intertwine in the Lebanese context.​
